TGIF!! Actually, this is the first week that the days all felt the same-GOOD. I was consistently aware of both my intentions and executions and they were lining up! Yay!! Did you have a good week?
Today was a day for detours and taking my time. Like most people I really am not a fan of detours, I want to get to where I am going the way I planned! It's like people have a natural aversion to them. It's also why more of us don't "stop and smell the roses", it requires an inconvenience! Whether it's a worthy inconvenience we will never find out if we don't give it a try. Sometimes even the act of just stopping can give us great joy, how many of us spend the majority of their time "doing and going"?
Today, when I woke up all I could think about was getting that second bookcases. I do not always follow through on plans, so when I want to do something or want something to happen.I have to continually pep talk myself. It can be tiring and it's too time consuming! I can't get anything done with "Did you do?Are you still doing? Did that get done?!" on a constant loop in my head. So I have been trying to do more things to be aware of the present and what I am doing NOW.
At lunch time I was on my way back to the office when I drove by an empty park. It was calling me lol ok maybe it was calling some kid named Coco, buuuut I still heard my name. I banged a U turn (and a couple of enemies!) and gut out. Next thing I know I'm on the swings, LOVING life lol. I enjoyed the feelings of being present, the sound of the wind, the cars going by and the brightly painted poles on the playground. It wasn't a brand new experience, I've been on a swing before and have been to that park before. Today I just had a different outlook of the experiences. Don't underestimate your perception!
I didn't see it then, but I had chosen a detour that made me change my thoughts on the entire topic. Later, when me and Sacks went to get the bookcase we stopped by a little Colombian bakery in Pawtucket. Already a detour, we ended up staying there for a little bit enjoying ourselves.
On the way back to my house I started thinking about why my detours today didn't feel anything like the ones that happen when I'm driving. I came to the conclusion that today I was comforted by my detours, not hassled by them. In reality, detours are set up solely for the purpose of our convenience and safety. It's why they have a million signs showing you the way to where you need to go, to reassure you that you're still on the right path. Yet, when we think of them we immediately start talking about the worst detours we have had to endure. But guess what, if you pay attention during your "temporary re-routing" you might see something new! Consider traffic detours the D.O.T's way of helping you smell the roses! Lol
Think about that the next time that you feel like you're being inconvenienced. Change your perception to thinking about the positive in the situation. Maybe the kids not ready when you are? Bus running late? Take that time and enjoy your company and surroundings, even if it's only a few minutes. Let me know how traffic goes tomorrow lol. #PracticeANewPerception #BorrowSeason
