I got up this morning and my body felt like I had spent yesterday lumberjacking! Everything hurt and I'm pretttty sure maybe I should've stretched or something...thanks, rock climbing, I hope it was just as good for you!
After a nice solo brunch catered by my local Dunkin I came home to pre-chill. That's the chilling I do when I'm not sure if I'm gonna leave my house again lol. Can't get into full chill until I know I'm good for the day lol. I ended up going back out to return movies, but that was it. Such a good day so far lol.
Me and one of my girls started talking earlier about communication. Well, part of the conversation, since we talked about 107 other things too lol. We talked about miscommunication really since it's something we continue to struggle with, both in our friendship and in life in general. We are currently on "break" from each other since our last communication mishap and it's really made me think about somethings.
Starting with the fact that we all speak a different language, a ton of different languages. I speak differently to my nephews, coworker, parents...Each of my relationships with these people has fostered a language. Not just as a way of speaking, but of interacting. Think about that, it's why you tell your best friend stuff in a different manner than your mom. Or why you sometimes say "I would never do that with such and such". What happens is you get really good at all these separate languages, but they do not always cross over well! Which makes sense because you wouldn't speak French to an English speaking person who didn't know the language.
Me and my bestie have some areas where we speak the same language because we BUILT it. Yet, when we have to talk about something our language doesn't currently address we don't make new words. We borrow from other languages we built and wonder why we can't communicate. The reality is that communication takes time, patience and compromise. All the relationships I don't put that effort into have horrible communication. And they should, I would not expect to get something from nothing anywhere else in my life.
Another thing about these languages is that some of them I don't want to learn or sharpen! Some people I care so little about that I say openly "we don't communicate well" or "I'm not interested in learning what works best." That sounds bad, but it's the truth. Not every language is for me because not everyone is for me. That's something I'm learning-sometimes the problem isn't a miscommunication but an issue of mistrust, mistakes or dislike. Learn to understand those languages, but don't strive for fluency. Strive for a language that speaks to who you are, what you want and your passion! Spend your time speaking that language with people who speak that same dialect, you will love it.
Also, remember this: If you meet someone on the street who couldn't understand your language you would not cry and stress yourself out. You would not continue to speak to them and hope that magically they would understand. If you understand that they would need to be taught understand that when it comes to yourself. You cannot communicate in a foreign language without learning it and you cannot expect people to speak your language if you won't teach them. Learn and teach with an open and understanding mind, but realize not every language is for you!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! #PartialFluency #ISpeakCoco #BorrowSeason
