Happy July, how the mothereff did this happen?! How are we seven months into the year and a month or so away from the book release! Time is FLYING!
Lately, I've been really working on being grateful and empathetic. Trying to put my thanks into action and words in a more open way. Also trying to be empathetic to those around me. Geez, it's so much work. Why don't people tell you that?! It's just as hard to not be an asshole as it is to be consciously aware of myself and my surroundings. It takes the same amount of time to say "thank you", as it does to say "eff off". Everyday I practice, everyday I struggle lol.
One of my biggest struggles in attempting to be empathetic is minding my own business. MYOB=Mind Your Own Business! Too often I find myself worrying about people that are not worried about themselves. In some cases people don't care about the concern while I'm at home biting my nails. Or worse when someone gives me their problems and I hold them. This is NOT being empathetic! This is enabling and harmful on both ends.
Keeping your nose in other people's problems is not helping. Not helping them and definitely not helping you. What it does, speaking for myself, is overwhelm and overload. Neither of those places are a great to operate from. In acknowledging this I decided to set up some boundaries.
1. When people give me info I don't need/that's not my business I tell them!
2. Stop saying "What can I do?" and start saying "How can I support you?"
3. Remind myself that getting involved makes me accountable to the promises/offers I make. Do not make them out of frustration.
4. A bad situation does not give anyone the right to disrespect me.
5."Not my circus, not my monkeys"-Things are not my business, focus on my own circus and monkeys!
Remember that while you are nostril deep in sorting out someone else's business YOUR business is left unattended. Take care of others, but always make sure you take care of yourself! #MindIt #MYOB #SelfCare
