Please let this rain continue, I love it! Everything about the rain makes me feel peaceful. The sound of it against the sidewalk, the change in rhythm as it picks up and this sense of cleansing as it goes on. I know that not too many people love the rain, but it's a beautiful thing. Take a few seconds to stand still, close your eyes and just enjoy the sound. It can be so relaxing!
Saturday, you kicked my ass. Seriously lol. I scheduled three sets of plans today, not thinking clearly lol. When I went to bed yesterday I had already decided that I wanted to keep them and I went to bed looking forward to the day. When I woke up this morning I didn't feel apprehensive or overwhelmed, but I was tired as hell! Not enough rest-must address this soon. If you're not getting enough sleep or enough of anything, get on it!
Anyway, I started my morning off by having breakfast with my mentee at Scrambler's, always a good time with her. We were matched through RISE, an amazing non profit that provides scholarship and mentoring opportunities to children of incarcerated parents. Great program, great staff- even though I'm biased lol. The commitment is 6 hours a month for a year and I have to say that's some of my favorite hours each month! Doing little things, like grabbing a meal and laughing and joking, really brings us closer together. It's a relationship I'm honored to be a part of and am enjoying it blossom!! Email me if you're interested in being connected with RISE!
After breakfast me and my oldest nephew went to the zoo with one of my great friends and her son! We had a friggin BLAST, all four of us. Now I've been to the zoo, but usually for school or work, so it was nice to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. O. knew all the animals and Ray was hungry for knowledge! They talked and ran and talked some more. It was really great for me to see my.nephew in a new light. Prior to today things I did with him were inside and he didn't always seem to enjoy them. I realized that he loves to be outside, yell, climb and interact with his environment. I have never seen him so openly anything we have done this much! It was nice to see him be able to be free and enjoy life the way that was best for him!
I ended the night at a friend's baby shower, I was not ready for the fun we had. Trading stories, eating and really just feeling the love! It was great to see some friends I haven't seen in a decade and got a chance to talk to the women they have become, so awesome!
While catching up we started talking about the blog. Talking about Borrow Season is something that I have to work at because anyone I talk to gets a slightly different version and it kind of drives me CRAZY. Anyway, in the middle of taking about it one of the women told me I was "weird as shit", made my whole damn night. She meant it as a compliment and for the first time in a while I didn't try to backpedal.."I absolutely am", owning that led to a conversation on how important it is to love yourself and embrace the things that make you different. It was a beautiful feeling to feel accepted and to be able to see my friends' lights shine so brightly when we talked about our future plans.
So let me share the secret of happiness and acceptance with you. It starts and ends with YOU! You have to tend to your happiness like a garden. If you went in the backyard with some friends and planted whatever and wherever you would have a shitshow. Plants wouldn't grow, money/time would be wasted and you'd be left feeling unfulfilled. You have to choose your happiness like you would your plants, somethings you are going to like and some you won't. Some plants are going to bring you more happiness than you thought and others will be less than you thought. The acceptance and self love is necessary to grow your happiness. When you see weeds in your backyard you don't hope they'll just get rid of themselves, you ACTIVELY watch and get rid of them. When your plants are finished growing you feel a sense of purpose and relief! I promise you if you treat your happiness like a garden you will be better off and so much happier. You know who you are and know/can work on knowing what you like- what makes you happy. I encourage you to be a Master Gardner of your happiness. Start today by doing something YOU like!!
Gonna get ready for this day in a bit, hope you are too!! Talk later! #BorrowSeason
